Comparative evaluation of various job evaluation methods
No single job analysis method can serve all purposes for which job analysis data are used. In this regard there have been a few instances in which reasonably objective comparisons have been made of such various methods. The most comprehensive study was reported by Levine, Ash, Hall and Sistrunk. Ninety-three job analysts working in both private and public sector organizations evaluated
seven different job analysis methods. Each method was evaluated in terms of eleven organizational purposes and eleven practical considerations. The findings are summarized below. As indicated, the PAQ was rated high on 18 of 22 purposes and practical concerns, and received more high ratings than any other method. Further, the PAQ met every practical concern, thus highlighting its usefulness in virtually any organization.
